Smoke Church is a family run business that started in 2016. Chef Rivaaj Maharaj has always had a deep fascination and love for Low and Slow, American style BBQ and that coupled with his extensive work in the Culinary Industry (in excess of 20 years), culminated in the birth of Smoke Church.

 

Smoke Church started off with Rivaaj experimenting with flavours whilst cooking BBQ for friends and family. His wealth of knowledge and experience in Pan Asian as well as European  Cuisines made their way into the products you see today as well as an array of other products currently in development.

 


Being Indian but having been born in South Africa, means that not only is Rivaaj imbued with a Braai (BBQ) Culture but also that those Indian flavours heavily influence many of the Flavour Profiles in our products.

 

Having moved to the UK and worked in Head Chef positions at some of London’s most iconic Hotels and Restaurants, namely a kitchen at the world renowned, Savoy Hotel and Nanban in Brixton to name a few, cemented a strong culinary foundation from which Smoke Church grew. Managing other famous Japanese and Thai Kitchens  as well as working in Mediterranean and Middle Eastern Kitchens has also greatly influenced the flavours in our products coming out of our BBQ Test Kitchen.
